NEM Hawks 22 – 22 West London Eagles
Trafford Sportsdome, Manchester
Last Saturday, the West London Eagles travelled away to face a very hard adversary, the NEM Hawks.
From the beginning both teams were fighting with ambitions to win. Kasia opened the score with 2 goals from the right wing. Hawks answered quickly, scoring from 9 meters. The Next 3 goals in a row belonged to Victoria who took the game one stride at a time. Hawks did not let go and tied the score. The ever-dependable Anette could do no wrong in the Eagles goal and 10 minutes in had already saved 3 penalties. Substitutes Amy and Margarita were working very well in defence. Towards the end of the first half, Sunniva found her way to the Hawks goal twice with beautiful shots from distance.
The second half of the game was equally end-to-end with neither team giving up. Judith’s first goal came from a wonderful one-on-one situation. Hawks answered by scoring from the line. For the rest of the game both teams were neck-to-neck. Lilla had a few great saves in the Eagles goal. 45 minutes in, the team from London started to pick up speed, after some great passes from Anne and Maddie, a gap opened up for Maria who scored from 6 meters. In the second half past the 20-minute mark, two players from the London team were given 2 min, leaving Hawks with the upper-hand. Hawks took advantage of this an overtook the London side. Both teams continued to fight, with Eagles going ahead with a minute to spare. Hawks continued to fight turning over the ball and scored the last goal with 30 seconds left, tying the game up 22 all.
Undeniably West London Eagles were the better team in this game. Missed chances and small mistakes led to them going home with a draw rather than a victory.
Goals for Eagles: Anette, Lilla, Amy, Victoria(7), Maria(4), Judith(2), Kasia(2), Anne, Sunniva(5), Margherita, Maddie(2).
