Eagles Under-19 men maintain 100% record
Eagles U19 men won their two remaining matches in the National U19 League preliminary round to book their place in the next round.
The Eagles U19 men were in action on Sunday at St Mary’s University, Twickenham, winning both games against Bucks Bullets and Olympia to maintain their 100% record.
The opening games saw Eagles record a 27-10 win against Bucks Bullets, who were joint top of the table with Eagles at the start of the day, although missing some key players on the day. Thanks to some solid defending from the start, and great goalkeeping by Rodrigo Moniz, Bucks Bullets never got into their stride. In attack the tactical moves were well executed and Saimonas Urbutis, who was named man-of-the-match, showed great control and leadership, while Myles Gannon was also on great form.
Eagles then recorded a confident 36-3 win against Olympia in their second match of the day. Again it was a highly focused Eagles team that took to the court and quickly identified the weaknesses in the Olympia game to exploit them fully. A strong defence and performance in goal from Rodrigo saw a succession of fast break goals for wingers Antoine Carton and Evan Mark, who was named man-of-the-match.
The two wins leave Eagles top of the South-East 2 table at the end of the preliminary round, with maximum points, and they are now through to the next stage. Results in the other groups will determine who are next opponents will be.
It also highly rewarding that Myles Gannon and Sam Nuttall, both under-16 players newly promoted to the under-19 team this season, continue to integrate so well and play a big part in our campaign. In goal Rodrigo Moniz has now completed the preliminary round having conceded 10 or less goals per game, a great achievement, helped also by some solid defending.
